This year sees the first ever nowhere cultural exchange on Friday afternoon at MoN.
The idea was borne from the desire to find ways to collectively interact and connect without the limitations of languages and their barriers.
Each year nowhere is represented by up to 30 different languages and cultures. Our website is translated into 5 different languages, our board members live
In 5 different countries and we have cultural attaches in seven different countries.
Not only do we speak different languages but bring different traditions, ways of doing things, views and values with us. Some times we enjoy connecting to our tribes and strengthening those ties, other times we love Nowhere for giving us the opportunity to expand beyond our 'bubble' and connect with others from different backgrounds and open our minds to the differing ways of doing things.

The cultural exchange seeks to bring everyone together to explore the different ways of connecting without the constraints of languages. People from different countries/cultures/tribes/barrios are invited to bring a small interractive project. This could be anything from a participatory collective art or craft project, a game of twister, food to share from your country, a competition, childrens game...

... And what else?

Would love to hear your ideas for how to bring people together and create simple, fun and non-intimidating ways to engage!

Hiya
Have been toying with an idea of creating a human spiral shape. Idea stemmed off from chatting to Ladybelle at Burning Pub on Thursday.

Recently we've been to Afrika Burn and they had a glider that took video and photos from an aerial perspective. Seeing the shots now - they look so awesome so it got me thinking how we could do the same bearing in mind that we have the little hill next to our playa and know that some folks climb up it and take some photos. Its a great way I think of bring people together across the language divide with a common idea to create human art.

So was thinking late afternoon if folks were interested to gather at MON and then depending on how many burners want to take part - creating a spiral effect and of course with head torches, glow sticks or anything really that lights up - could look really effective.

Anyway its just an idea - you know what its like you get these crazy ideas and then start thinking of the logistics etc.

Yep yep guess its been in bedded in the sub-concious all this time

Was thinking of a static spiral, not a moving one and at about dusk early evening so that if you had glowing goodies they would show up and the result would be seen and hopefully captured by camera either as a still or by filming the whole process from start to finish.

Hey as said its just an idea if it dosent happen its cool x

A few days ago I took part in a "creative experiment". Basically, the only rule was no talking in words. We meditated for a bit, then as the mood took people they started to interact, make music, play, laugh, howl, whatever unfolded. It was really fascinating and lots of fun. Maybe not quite what you had in mind, but it was something I had thought would work be interesting in a burn environment.

I love the idea. Could be really cool. i'm in !

I would just like to add that glow sticks are to be avoided as they are non-recyclable plastic filled with toxic non-biodegradable chemicals and make up an enormous amount of moop. It's not hard to find greener alternatives, who will also make much more light.

I would actually vote for them to banned from Nowhere period.

I've bought some cool cheap solar-recharged little lights (little bike safety lights) at a hardware store that I'll be wearing this year. There are some cool battery powered led bracelets too that you could use with rechargeable batteries.
