Welcome to the first Volunteers Newsletter of 2010! Preparation for Nowhere is already in full swing. It's going to be a wicked awesome year - and volunteers are the ones making it all happen! This newsletter will give you some important information and give you an update on the latest news for volunteering.
BUY YOUR TICKET
Tickets are on sale now - go to the Nowhere homepage
www.goingnowhere.org and click 'tickets' at the top. All volunteers must buy a ticket. Every single person who comes buys a ticket, whether it's their first time or their 5th time and no matter how much work they put into volunteering. We are all participants here!
Low income: 65 euros for people on low incomes – on sale until 31 March
Level 1: 95 euros – on sale until 30 April
...and then they start getting more expensive!
KEEPING IN TOUCH
All volunteers who have registered are subscribed to the Nowhere crew mailing list, where you will get important emails for crew/volunteers. If you have not yet registered as a volunteer, please do so NOW. Everyone needs to register to be on the crew list, be permitted on site early, and be invited to eat with Werkhaus, the crew camp. To register, go to
www.goingnowhere.org and click 'volunteer'. Another great way to keep informed is to join the Nowhere Forums. You can ask questions, arrange ride shares, and get information from other participants. Go to
www.goingnowhere.org and click forums. You'll need to log into to be able to post.
PROJECTS AND JOBS
Many of you may have already heard from me or various project leads about getting involved in a specific project. If you haven't, don't worry! It means either you let us know you're available to help only closer to the event, or we're still looking for the right role for you. Right now we have several specific roles that need to be filled. Don't let it stop you if you have never done anything like this before or you are new to Nowhere. I personally jumped straight into an assistant lead role my first year at Nowhere, before I had any idea what I was doing, and it was the most amazing way to get to know the event and the wonderful people who make it happen. If any of these interest you, please let us know! These are all roles that need to get rolling as soon as possible as they require pre-event planning.
Rangels - like quiet superheroes, people that those who need guidance or help can turn to. A force for good seeking out trouble and setting it right.
Mistress/master of MoN - facilitate, decorate, and fantasticate the Middle of Nowhere, the structure at the center of it all. Part interior decorator, part stage manager, all awesome.
Documentation - collect and present information about our history, projects, art, and identity. Writing the story of the event. Help us crystalise who we are.
Arts resources manager - tools, materials, love... if artists need it, we need you to organize it.
Leave no Trace - MOOP patrol! We want to leave the site in better shape than how we found it.
Build leads - Fence, Schlafhaus, Malfare, Radio Shack - design, build, try not to hit thumb with hammer.
Storage - You think all that stuff just disappears after Nowhere each year? We need you to logistic-ize it in and out of it's hibernation space.
Obtanium - helping people help themselves to source things they need. Materials, resources... think outside the toolbox.
Arts Team members - support art, help with giving art grants, help facilitate what lies at the foundation of Nowhere.
PHP developer - we <3 geeks! If you can work with PHP we would like to talk to you!
That about does it for now! You'll be hearing from me again in more newsletters in the future. As always, you can reach us at
