Your money’s no good here…
You cannot buy or sell anything at Nowhere.* You have to bring everything you will need with you, from food and water to warm clothes and adequate shelter for the harsh desert conditions. You can also join a theme camp, which will help to organise things like food and water communally.
For more information and to join a theme camp, check out the forums.
*Note: The only thing we allow to be sold at Nowhere is ice, for just a few hours a day, so individuals and camps can keep food fresh in the searing heat.
The best things in life are free…
As well as the principles of ‘no commerce’ and ‘radical self-reliance’, Nowhere operates on the principle of ‘gifting’. Gifting means giving something to others for the simple pleasure of it – it could be a beer, a meal, a massage, an art project, a smile, a piece of jewellery, a photograph or anything else you can imagine.
Gifting isn’t compulsory – if you gift something, it is simply because you want to. If someone gives you a gift, it is simply because they wanted to – all that’s required from you is to smile and say thanks! Gifting is NOT bartering – gifts don’t replace money at Nowhere, they’re simply nice!
Please think carefully about the items you gift – we don’t want them turning into MOOP! Some of the most appreciated gifts can be a smile, a hug, a cold beer or a massage for someone working in the hot sun… Get creative and enjoy!
