FAQ

What is Nowhere?
Nowhere is a five-day event based on the principles of radical self-expression, radical self-reliance, no commerce and leave no trace. It is not a music festival, nor solely an arts festival. It is a blank canvas, waiting for you.

Is Nowhere the same as Burning Man?
Nowhere is based upon the same key principles as Burning Man, but they are separate entities and have different atmospheres. Nowhere is also much smaller than Burning Man, with around 650 participants.

Where is Nowhere?

Nowhere is in a beautiful location in the Spanish desert, near Zaragoza. We keep the exact location secret until we send out the survival guide, however you can use the Getting there section and the forums to arrange transport and ride shares.

Do I have to join a camp?
Most people join together in theme camps (or barrios), however Nowhere is still small enough to feel like one big camp. You are welcome to join an existing barrio, set up a new barrio or simply camp on your own.

What's this about no money?
Nowhere is a no commerce event. This means that nothing will be on sale during the event, and you are not permitted to bring anything to sell. We encourage you to explore the principles of a commerce-free system, and to gift away to your heart's content. See self-reliance.

What about food and water?
You MUST bring enough food and water for the duration of the event. Please see self-reliance.

What about camping and survival equipment?
You need to bring everything you'll need to survive in the harsh Spanish desert. There is often extreme heat during the day, and it gets very cold at night - expect temperatures of around 37C/99F during the day, going down to 10C/55F at night. Please see self-reliance.

What does my ticket price cover?
Your ticket allows you entry to the event and the cost goes towards paying for toilets, the central structure and the power required for communal projects. It does not provide you with food, water or camping equipment.

Why are tickets bought at the Gate so expensive?

We'd really rather not sell tickets on the Gate, as it makes it much easier for us to run the event if we know how many people are coming. Buying your ticket before the end of May gets you a better deal and makes life easier for us.

So if I buy a ticket, you'll provide me with the best party I've ever been to?
No. One of Nowhere's central principles is participation. Everyone who comes is expected to contribute in some way, and simply being a spectator is discouraged.

Can I make art?
Damn right! Nowhere is, among other things, an arts event, and we encourage participants to create and contribute art. See the art projects page for more information.

But I can't build stuff or make art! What can I do?
Contribute in any way you can. You could give manicures, give presents you've made at home, sing a song, provide massages, put on a performance, or join in with a camp. Here are some more ideas.

Actually, I do have this idea, but I couldn't do it on my own. Can I get help?
Join the Nowhere mailing list and ask if people want to collaborate with you. You can also find out about projects, post your ideas and connect with other participants on the forums.

I'd like to help out, but honestly, I have no skills. What can I do?
Come early and help set up, or stay late and help clear up. There is always work to be done, and a job can always be found for you. Nowhere will not happen without volunteers. See 'Get involved' or email Questo indirizzo e-mail è protetto dallo spam bot. Abilita Javascript per vederlo.

What is Leave No Trace?
Leave No Trace means that whatever we take to the site must be taken away from the site too. You are PERSONALLY responsible for every single thing you take onto the site - all your rubbish must be taken away with you.

Leave No Trace doesn't just mean picking up the odd bit of rubbish though. Once the event finishes on Sunday evening, we have to take down all the structures, pack up all the building materials etc, store it all, and then clear the site of any stray MOOP (matter out of place). There's a lot of work to be done after the party's over, so please let us know if you can stay an extra day to help.

Can I bring my fire toys?
There are very strict fire restrictions in Spain during the summer. Please contact the crew directly with any questions about using fire at Nowhere.

I have some health issues - is there medical support?
You are responsible for your own health, safety and well-being at all times during the event. We have a volunteer welfare team (called Malfare) who can help you with medical and safety issues, but you are solely responsible for your health. Anyone with specific health concerns should email the safety team prior to the event at Questo indirizzo e-mail è protetto dallo spam bot. Abilita Javascript per vederlo.

Do I have to pay in euros?
We'd prefer it, as our expenses are in euros. See the tickets page for details.

Can I bring a truck?
The track to the site is not paved so please contact us for advice.

How do I get my stuff to Spain?
Join the Nowhere mailing list and ask around if anyone else is going from your area, as you may be able to rent a truck together, or have your stuff shipped.

Can I use a video camera?
Yes, you can, but please read the Nowhere film and video guidelines first.

Will my phone work?
Yes, but we'd prefer you to turn it off - it's much nicer to leave the real world behind for a few days!

Where can I buy supplies?
The nearest village to the site has a a few small shops and a bank. Larger supermarkets and DIY stores can be found in Zaragoza. More details are in the survival guide that is sent out with your ticket.

Can I bring my kids?
Children are welcome, however Nowhere is NOT a child-orientated event and you should read the Children at Nowhere FAQ before ordering tickets.

I have a question not answered on this page.
Get in touch and we'll do our best to answer it.
