Nowhere has no paid staff: every single person that makes this event happen is a volunteer.
As you've probably noticed by now, a central part of Nowhere's philosophy is participation. Nowhere aims to provide a blank slate whereupon a community can be built by all, and that means everyone has to pitch in.
Some people give their time year-round: searching for sites, dealing with the Spanish authorities or getting involved with the enormous amounts of organisation that goes into the event. Others volunteer just for the duration of the event: building toilets, cooking meals or taking down the site.
We need people to volunteer to help out with the event. No matter what your skills or abilities, we will have something you can do. Help and a positive attitude will always be on hand for those unsure of what to do.
So, what can you do?
The Nowhere crew is, roughly speaking, split up into the following sections:
Art Curation - This deals with artists prior to the event, art placement and performance scheduling at the event, and is responsible for giving out art grants.
Site management - The biggest section. Responsible for setting up and running the site for the duration of the event, and taking it down afterwards. Building toilets and central structures, running the power grid, planning the site, clear up. The list is long, and many people are needed to help with bringing Nowhere to life on site.
Communications - Responsible for getting information out to everyone and updating this website.
If you have any skills that would help with the above teams, please get in touch. You don't have to commit to giving up all your free time for the next year, you don't even have to take on full responsibility for a project. Maybe there's someone that simply needs a hand posting tickets one afternoon, or just needs help washing and storing costumes. Alternatively, perhaps you might leave the site on Tuesday, rather than Monday, and spend Monday helping with the take down and clear up of the site, and storage of all the stuff.
Even if you're sure you've no useful skills, get in touch. More than one current member of the crew was sure they had nothing to offer before getting involved! There is always work to be done, at all levels, and an extra pair of hands never goes amiss.
