Role to be filled

Gate, Greeters & Perimeter Metalead(s)

Year Round And On Site

GGP (Gate, Greeters and Perimeter) are the teams that help participants enter and exit Nowhere, welcome first timers to the event and keep us all safe! We are looking for a GGP MetaLead and Co-MetaLead to oversee the department, providing guidance and support to the three teams and ensuring successful delivery of their projects. The main responsibility will be to ensure their teams within the department are well staffed; including leads, co-leads and volunteers. You will work closely with City Planning and Malfare to ensure there are clear and manageable processes and procedures for entry and exit from Nowhere. You will also work with the Local Liaison team, facilitating emergency situations involving authorities or/and emergency services when needed.

Tasks and Time commitment

As this is a Year-round role the time commitment will vary depending on the needs of the event and your own responsibilities/availability. As with most things at Burns, it is what you make it! The MetaLeads are the link between GGP, NOrg and the other departments. You will need to be available once a month to be involved in the MetaLeads committee meetings, and have regular meetings with your team to give them any relevant updates or information.

Here’s some of the tasks you will be doing (more will be explained through handover from previous ML)

Pre-Event January-March

  • Participate in MetaLeads Committee meetings updating the other MetaLeads and Project Manager on the status of the Production (All of GGP)
  • Start planning the department’s budget to submit to finance on deadline
  • Make sure team leads have been recruited for each area (ideally 2 on each team)
  • Start designing the parking lot and liaise with City Planning
  • Meet with all the leads in each team to set them tasks (e.g help with FIST)
  • Make sure shifts on FIST are updated for event time roles for all areas
  • Once tickets go on sale, start volunteer recruitment by contacting previous years teams, liaise with the Comms team and ask for advertisement space on newsletters, post on social media etc

Pre-Event April-Build

  • Chair regular meetings for your department and escalate issues to MetaLeads Committee or Project Manager when necessary.
  • Provide monthly status quo reports to MetaLeads Committee including: update on all your teams, causes of delay – if any, possible problems and request for help, recruitment needs and any vacancies, newly created roles, and priority areas for recruitment
  • Recruit and manage leads and co-leads for your sub-departments
  • Participate in any other planning meetings relevant to your role
  • Make sure with the team leads that FIST / all the shifts are updated and filled
  • Ensure the Leads in your department adhere to crucial budget and purchasing deadlines

During Setup, Event and Strike

  • Attend build if you can – arriving on site before gate opens for barrios (week 3 set up)
  • Make sure that all of the IT tech at the gate is ready and functional
  • Liaise with power to make sure gate has power and lighting in time for gate opening
  • Provide support to teams in your department – solving issues, helping manage volunteers, communicating recruitment needs to NoInfo, covering vacancies/shifts if needed.
  • Regularly check in with other MetaLeads and act as the point of contact for your department as and when needed
  • Participate in any on-site meetings relevant to your role
  • Carry out any site management shift as agreed

Post Event August-December
