Leave No Trace

The Nowhere site is spectacular, and empty.

It is important that when you leave, there is no evidence that you were there in the first place. That means no cigarette butts, no rubbish, no stray items of clothing, no food waste, no missed tent pegs, and no items that have been blown down the hill by the wind.

It is your responsibility to take all of your belongings and rubbish with you when you leave the site. You are also encouraged to pick up any rubbish that is not yours that you come across during your stay.

Keep it tidy
MOOP matter out of place is the single biggest enemy of the Leave No Trace ideal. Usually treated as rubbish, MOOP might be someone's forgotten trinket, lost cigarette lighter, a rubber band (where DO they come from?), paper or packaging. Avoiding MOOP should be the mission of every Nowhere participant. Here's a rough battle plan:

  1. Know your enemy train yourself to spot MOOP at 10 paces. Try to keep track of your own personal belongings and take responsibility for your own rubbish. Also look out for other people accidentally leaving things behind.
  2. Be vigilant patrol daily for MOOP so it's never able to get a foothold in your camp or in communal places.
  3. Set traps if you're doing something messy, put a drop sheet down to collect the MOOP.
  4. Rally the troops involve other people in your battle against MOOP.
  5. Never say die it's tempting to think that you've done your bit, but the fight is not over until the site is MOOP free.

Clean up
Of course, if everyone did this perfectly there would not need to be a clean-up effort, but inevitably, some communal things will need a few extra hands to ensure we really Leave No Trace. We ask that you consider staying to help pack away to site, so that clear up isn't a rushed affair sandwiched between packing your tent and saying goodbye to your new friends. If you can stick around for a day or two after the event to help us take down the site, store all our stuff, and clear up the ground, please volunteer.
